I’m delighted to be Chairing the on-line event ‘A Prelude to Inspiring Women Artists at Marchmont‘ on 24 April 2021. The speakers are Professor Elizabeth Cumming of the University of Edinburgh, Dr Sally Anne Huxtable of the National Trust and artist and art historian Dr Julia Mee. They will talk about Phoebe Anna Traquair (1852-1936), The Marchmont Collection and The Marchmont Mural Cycle respectively. The event will be hosted by Hugo Burge, Director of Marchmont Farms Limited and Elaine Ellis, President of Arts and Crafts Tours, will provide the concluding remarks.

Marchmont House Collection
‘Marchmont’ refers to Marchmont House, the Grade A-listed Palladian house built in 1750 near Greenlaw in the Scottish Borders. Following an extensive and award-winning restoration project, it contains some of the finest Georgian and Arts and Crafts interiors in Scotland. It is being re-born as a ‘Home for Makers and Creators’ including through the development of its Creative Spaces studio complex.
This is a prelude to the ‘Inspiring Women Artists‘ all-day event which will hopefully take place in Marchmont House itself on 9 April 2022, Covid-19 permitting.
If this appeals, you might also like to attend my ‘An (Almost) A to Z of Modern Scottish Women Artists‘ on-line talk for Museums & Galleries Edinburgh, to mark International Womens’ Day on 8 March 2021.
