Please join me when I give the opening talk at the ‘Anne Redpath and her Circle‘ exhibition at The Granary Gallery, Berwick-upon-Tweed on 19 May 2023.
Anne Redpath (1895-1965)
Anne Redpath is widely recognised at the doyenne of post-World War Two Scottish painting. Renowned for her joyously coloured still-lifes, interiors and landscapes, she was the first female painter to be elected a full member of the Royal Scottish Academy. Redpath was also a popular hostess in her flat in Edinburgh’s New Town, where she lived between 1952 until her death in 1965. In this talk I will celebrate her professional success as well as her friendships with other leading modern Scottish artists, including William Gillies (1898-1973), David McClure (1926-1998) and Robin Philipson (1916-92).
The Granary Gallery and the Fleming Collection
The Anne Redpath and her Circle exhibition is a partnership between The Granary Gallery and the Fleming Collection; it will run from 20 May – 5 November 2023. The gallery is part of The Maltings (Berwick) Trust which runs performance, film, exhibition, workshop, talks and youth arts programmes. It was built in 1769 and was used as a granary until 1985, hence its name. The Fleming Collection promotes Scottish art and creativity through exhibitions, events, publishing and education initiatives. Its fine art holdings cover the period from the seventeenth century to the present day and includes twenty beautiful paintings by Redpath.
